iPhone owners could one day be checking out using only their smartphone. It’s part of a “Scan & Go” app that the retailer is introducing for a new system that allows shoppers to do their own checkouts.
Shoppers will simply scan their items using the iPhone camera, and can pay at the self-checkout counter. It will be interesting to see how it works, and we wonder how they will prevent thefts as the current self-checkouts seem to use scales to ensure that items that belong in bags are placed in the bags.
It’s am interesting idea, and we really like it. In the long run, as long as shoppers have their iPhones and know how to use the application, it can cut back on waiting times quite a bit.
