According to Kantar Worldpanel, the iPhone 5 is leading Apple’s smartphone into a higher marketshare than Android, at least in the US. If data and reports are accurate, Android had 46.7 percent of smartphone sales over the last 12 weeks.
Kantar’s Dominic Sunnebo says that iOS did take over Android in the US when the iPhone 4S was released, and Apple kept on top for three periods in a row. “This time we predict that Apple will beat its previous high of 49.3 percent and achieve its highest ever share of the US smartphone market within the next two periods,” says Sunnebo.
It’s also reported that 62 percent of those iPhone 5 sales were consumers who had already owned an Apple product It’s reported that 92 percent said that they intend to stick with the iPhone as they upgrade in the future.
