We’ve heard rumors and seen alleged photos before. Looks like the Verge has some more information on the app for iOS and Android. The Verge seems to Microsoft what All Things D and the Wall Street Journal are to Apple. In other words, their source has proven beyond solid in the past.
According to the report, it will be available for iOS before it hits other platforms. It will be three separate apps that allow for Office document viewing and editing on their devices. Users will need to have a Microsoft account. Users will need to subscribe to Office 365 if they want to edit the documents.
If the reports are accurate the subscription can be purchased in-app. However, editing won’t be very comparable to working on the desktop version. It’s more of a solution for basic edits.
We can expect it to release in early 2013. Expect it around March for iOS and Android by May. That’s still a long time, but it’s something. The Verge asked Microsoft about the release, and they were simply told that Office will work across Windows Phone, iOS and Android.
