Text messaging is said to be on the decline. This is because of other services that offer messaging for free. iMessage is one of those.
The report comes from an independent analyst by the name of Chetan Sharma. According to the report, during the third quarter of 2012, US mobile users sent about 678 texts per month. That’s down from the second quarter, when users were sending about 696 texts per month.
While that’s not a huge drop, it is the first time that texting has declined rather than increased. This isn’t a bad thing for consumers. This does not mean people are sending less messages to each other. It just means they are using iMessage, Facebook and others more and more.
This is likely to increase because smartphone adoption is on the rise.
