Google released a version of their Maps app for iOS. It’s great. Times like this, we are glad that Apple decided to build their own mapping app, because it forced Google to rebuild a better mapping app for iOS.
However, we did not expect this. Google actually admits that the application they created for iOS is better than the maps on their own Android platform. Here’s a portion of a New York Times article:
This, it turns out, is the best news of all. The brand-new, completely rethought design is slick, simple and coherent. Google admits that it’s even better than Google Maps for Android phones, which has accommodated its evolving feature set mainly by piling on menus.
Interesting, but cool.
For a little further reading, you can check out a side-by-side comparison. Seems so many people wanted the app that it quickly hit Apple’s top-downloads.
