The latest beta of Apple TV firmware adds Bluetooth keyboard support.
This is a nice change, because typing with the packed-in remote is slow and cumbersome. The iOS Remote App for Apple TV is also a nice solution, but at the very least, this is another option.
According to 9to5Mac, the keyboard can take total control of Apple TV without the need for a remote or separate app.
