According to a report, the four major carriers, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile, all hope to bring text to 911 capabilities by 2014.
There could be many advantages to this. One major one would be persons who are hearing or speech impaired. They could easily send an emergency text to 911 and receive help if needed.
Of course it’s going to be a few years before anything like this becomes a standard. We may not even see it until 2014, at the soonest, based on what we’re reading.
Maybe it will be sooner rather than later.
