Appetite is a tool that allows for iPhone owners to take a screenshot of their Homescreen and upload to their website to make it easy to share their apps with others. The service identifies apps by their icon and links others to their App Store page.
It’s a cool concept, but we tried it ourselves. As we figured, it’s not going to be very good at identifying Apps in folders. We also tried to open a folder so it could get the bigger icons. It identified some of the more popular ones, such as Spincam, Echofon, and Google Voice. It didn’t identify some of the others, and some were completely wrong. The unintended consequence of this is that it made for some quick App discovery as I was curios about the weird apps it mistook mine for.
We won’t be too hard on it. This is in Beta. It will take a while for it to get up where it need to be if we want a totally useful sharing service. We wonder if they will ever use some crowdsourcing or input from users to help them expand their library.
It’s still a neat concept. It just needs some work. Either way, go ahead and try it out.
