The iPad mini is now available as Wifi+Cellular in China.
The iPad and China have a bit of a history, thanks to a company called Proview that had a trademark on the name iPad. Things have since cleared up, and now Apple is free to sell tablets in mainland China.
This is important for Apple for two reasons: 1) As we mentioned above, Apple used to have a hard time getting the iPad to China. 2) China is a HUGE market for Apple. This means lots of potential sales for the company, and lots of App Store activity.
The name implies that it won’t be 4G-capable in that market, but at least they now have a way to browse on their iPad without the need for a wifi hotspot.
