Valve co-founder and managing director Gabe Newell said that Apple is his company’s biggest threat when it comes to taking over the living room. Newell spoke at a lecture at the University of Texas.
The upcoming Steam Box is a modular computer designed by Xi3 and Valve. It’s positioned to be a box that easily fits in the living room, and can be used for applications like gaming. Some say it will compete directly with consoles. However, Newell doesn’t view traditional gaming consoles as the biggest threat to this box. He say’s it’s Apple, he said, “I think Apple rolls the console guys really easily,” reports Polygon.
Newell went on to say, “the biggest challenge, I don’t think is from the consoles. I think the biggest challenge is that Apple move on the living room before the PC industry sort of gets its act together.”
