The Galaxy SIII by Samsung was third. That said, it was partly because the Galaxy SIII has peaked in popularity. As CultofAndroid reports, the Galaxy S4 is likely to debut in the coming weeks during Mobile World Congress 2013, so waning popularity shouldn’t be an issue for Samsung’s Galaxy handsets.
That’s the usual smartphone cycle. We don’t have statistics, but it makes sense that folks hold out until a new handset releases to pick it up with their contracts. Those who missed out on the Galaxy SIII are likely holding on to their old handset waiting for the new one before they pick up the new phone.
