A Brilliant 17-year-old Sold His iPhone App to Yahoo! for $30 Million

Summly

Yahoo! recently announced its acquisition of Summly. It’s an iPhone app that grabs news from sites you like, or based on keywords that interest you and condenses it to small bits of info that users can read on the go.

Apple chose it as one of the best apps of 2012. It’s actually a cool app. I have it on my own iPhone, and it’s very cool. The gestures take a minute or two to get the hang of, but once you get it, things are very simple.

Nick D’Aloisio built the app when he was just 15. He’s 17 now, but the app is more popular than ever, and Yahoo! found enough value in it to buy it for $30 million. That’s good news for the kid. Let’s just hope that the App remains good. It’s great for skimming the news. We wouldn’t want that to somehow change.
