We’re curious to see how this would work outside of a patent application. It shows a Smart Cover with a built-in battery of some sort that will charge the iPad wirelessly.
It seems that the cover uses inductive charging, according to the patent application. The cover has individual battery cells and the components that enable inductive charging. The magnets that currently exist on the Smart Cover keep it properly aligned. This, according to AppleInsider, means efficient use of the induction transmitters.
It’s a cool idea, but that’s in theory. Whether Apple actually releases it is another thing.
