Apple’s Lightning Digital AV Adapter, shown above in its non-taken apart form, is actually a much more complex piece of hardware than you’d initially think.
Panic Software took it apart, when testing a theory that the cable actually sets up an AirPlay connection between the TV and the iOS device rather than sending data directly through to the TV. There is actually a small ARM chip in the cable, which you can see below:
That’s actually pretty interesting. That said, while we haven’t tried it for ourselves, we hear it’s not all that great.
