This is a welcomed update. Google Maps for iPhone now locates your contacts. That means if you have a friend’s address saved in your contact list, you can use Google Maps to find it. That’s much more reliable than Apple Maps has been in the past few months.
There are also new categories that help you find what you are looking for, such as hotels, ATM machines and gas stations. This is extremely useful for driving through unfamiliar areas. It’s always nice to be able to look at the map and quickly find a gas station when you’re on the road.

* Search your Google Contacts; sign in to have your saved addresses show up when you search for friends and family by name.
* Quickly search for local places by selecting popular categories such as restaurants, bars, cafes, gas stations, etc.
* Choose between Kilometers or Miles for your preferred distance units.
* Note that some features may not be available in all countries.
