Walmart is expanding its Scan & Go self-checkout system to more locations as part of its pilot program.
This will expand the service to over 200 stores. Previously it was only 70. Seems Walmart is seeing some success and slowly rolling it out in hopes of making it a standard at its locations. Regardless, there are more than 4,000 Walmart stores in the US, reports Reuters, so there is a long way to go. It will also depend highly on customer experience.
It seems easy enough to use. Shoppers scan their items as they pick them up at the store. When they reach the self-checkout, they pay at the self-checkout screen. We haven’t seen it first-hand as its not in our area, but it sounds cool and convenient.
The system is currently limited to iOS devices, but should come to Android in the near future.
