Remember the kid who racked up his dad’s credit card bill?
Big in the news lately is kids making a bunch of in-app purchases and running up their parents’ credit card bills.
The UK Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is now investigating the matter. It will launch a six-month investigation into apps on both Google and Apple’s app stores to find whether children are being unfairly targeted in some way by these app developers.
According to reports, if the OFT does find some issues with these apps, it may seek “legal undertakings.” That said, the OFT did say that it’s not looking to have these in-app purchases banned, it just wants to ensure that the purchases aren’t pressuring or unfairly encouraging them in some way.
