According to a recent rumor, Apple may be reworking the backlighting on the iPad 5. It’s a redesign that could make it lighter and thinner.

The rumor comes from NDP DisplaySearch. The LED backlight would be made smaller by using more efficient LEDs. It’s also said that Apple may use a film-based touch sensor. This would make for the first major design change to the iPad since the iPad 2 back in 2011.

We also hear that the larger iPad will take some design ideas from the iPad mini.

There’s very little information on the rumored iPad, but that could be because much of the focus in recent rumors is on the iPhone 5S. Perhaps after that device releases, we will start to hear more about the next line of iPads.
