Report: iPads are Saving Pilots’ Backs

This is probably an unexpected result of American Airlines going with iPads instead of those heavy flight books.

Website TUAW reports that American Airlines has seen less back injuries in pilots due to them carrying around iPads for in-flight manuals and other documentation rather than the heavy books they used to lug around.

IT may not sound like a lot, but it was several pounds of paper these pilots had to carry on their backs or bags everywhere they went. This is also saving money because it cuts back on fuel consumption (less weight on the plane. Multiply that by several planes flying around at any given time…you get the idea.)

Furthermore, they no longer have to pay for printing the page revisions. It’s all done digitally. It probably requires an App update or PDF download, and it’s done.
