Cue the stock image of the rumored low cost iPhone that every blog has right now.

We usually don’t immediately believe any of the rumors that pop up on the internet about new iPhones or whatever, but this one has been reported extensively by several outlets.

According to Japan-based blog Macotakara (via 9to5Mac), the smaller, plastic iPhone is being tested in several colors. If true, we should see them before the end of the year.

The rumor claims that Apple will make 1,000 units for field testing, then during July-Septermber should go into production.

There isn’t much on it, but if it’s real, we will see it this year. That said, even if so, we may never see it sold in the US. Rumors do suggest that such an iPhone would be limited to emerging markets as a way to boost Apple’s iPhone sales in those parts of the world.
