Here’s a very cool little trick for the latest version of Google Maps for iOS that lets you cache offline maps.
First, you will need to zoom in or out of the area of the map you want. However, it can’t be too large of an area, or it won’t work. When you have a full view of the area you want to save, enter “ok maps” into the search field. Hit the search button, and this will start a download of the map for offline use.
If it worked, you will see a prompt telling you that “The onscreen map has been cached.”
After that, you can access that portion of the map at any time. This is great for people who are limited to wifi-only devices.
