Apple recently purchased Embark, a map designed for navigating through mass transit. This may go to further improve Apple Maps.
It’s not known how much Apple paid for the company, but but it will be used within the Maps app as a way for users of public transportation.
Here’s a portion of the report:
We don’t know how much Apple paid for the several-person team it acquired very recently. But we heard from people knowledgeable about the deal that the company plans to directly integrate Embark’s technology into Apple Maps.
Apple confirmed the acquisition, but didn’t comment on why and just went with its usual mention that it does buy companies from time-to-time.
