When you’re driving around following directions given to you by Apple Maps, or any mapping app for that matter, it’s wise to be mindful of your surroundings. Some drivers in Alaska have found themselves driving onto the runway of Fairbanks International Airport.
It’s an error on Apple Maps’ part, because it leads them right into the airport’s runway. However, it’s also the responsibility of the driver to watch where they are going. The runway has several signs, painted markings and other indications that they shouldn’t be driving there. However, they drove more than a mile ignoring those, because the iPhone told them to do it.
Apple has somewhat corrected the problem. Maps now tells drivers it doesn’t have the directions to that particular airport. This is going to be the case until things are fixed. It’s a shame, because things were slowly looking up for Apple Maps. We tend to trust Google for now, but Apple’s been very hit or miss with our directions. It’s worth noting that all the apps have their faults and not all will always lead you the right way everywhere you go.
