Above: iPhone 5 concept.
This is strictly rumor for now. That said, we’ve heard plenty of rumors saying that Apple is looking to switch to sapphire displays for the next iPhone.
According to the rumor, which came from Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth, “Apple just snapped up three year’s worth of the supply of sapphire screens from the company that we had engaged to make the screens for the Edge.”
The Edge, or Ubunto Edge, according to CultofMac, was a “high concept” smartphone that Canonical tried to launch through Indiegogo crowdfunding. It didn’t meet its goal, and the idea had to be scrapped.
Let’s see if Apple does end up going with sapphire glass.
